About This Conference
Rapid economic growth, urbanization and increasing population have driven a huge increase in resource consumption, with the consequent release of large amounts of waste to the environment. Waste streams can be potential sources for new products or resources, and can improve the efficiency of resource utilization. As a result, waste management and resource optimization are closely connected to each other. Most current waste and resource management schemes lack a holistic approach, able to cover the whole chain from product design, raw material extraction, production and consumption of goods and services, re-manufacturing and re-use, resource recovery from waste down to its safe final disposal. In this framework, it is crucial to have reliable assessment tools, able to provide an accurate and quantitative assessment of possible options for a more efficient utilization of resources and sustainable management of wastes.
The conference aims at stimulating a discussion on current waste management systems in both developing and developed countries, with the view to encouraging a more holistic Resource Management approach as opposed to the traditional “end-of-pipe” Waste Management model. The Conference will focus on concepts and tools that allow a fair and reliable comparison between the environmental, economic and social performance of different waste and resource management systems and waste treatment options. Particular attention will be given to case studies of Life Cycle Assessment, Life Cycle Costing and Material Flow Accounting for specific waste management options and waste and resource management planning, especially concerning waste streams other than Municipal Solid Waste.

Conference Format and Abstracts Submission
This conference will follow the usual ECI format, consisting of planned morning and late afternoon/early evening sessions with sufficient free time to be used for ad hoc sessions, networking and discussions among the participants and for small group-specific activities.
All persons whose abstracts are accepted will be required to give an oral presentation (that will be of approximately ten minutes) and to prepare a poster for discussion at the poster session that evening. This will allow intensive discussion of the technical materials presented.
One-page abstracts should be submitted by the deadline indicated below, and preferably as soon as possible. Please indicate the topic in the list above which best describes your work. The abstract should include both the significance of the research as well as results that will be discussed, in order to allow a scientific assessment of the work by the Chairs, Co-chairs and Scientific Advisory Committee.
Deadline for abstracts for oral presentations: Closed
Abstracts should be submitted electronically at https://ssl.linklings.net/conferences/lca/
The abstract template available at the above link must be used for an abstract to be considered for presentation.

Calabria: Calabria is the tip of the beautiful Italian peninsula; it borders with Basilicata and stretches between the Tyrrhenian Sea and the lonian Sea in the direction of Sicily, from which it is divided by the Strait of Messina.
Cetraro and Grand Hotel San Michele
Cetraro Marina, a pleasant seaside resort is about two km from the Cetraro Commune of which it is a part. The ancient Citrarium (name derived from the abundant citrus cultivation in the area) was a center of the Bruzi rising between Paola and Capo Bonifati. Its coast location offers many interesting boat excursions.
The picturesque Grand Hotel San Michele (www.sanmichele.it) is situated on the Tyrrhenian Coast, 120 meters above the Mediterranean Sea, with a fantastic view of Calabria’s southern coast. It offers visitors one of the prettiest locations Southern Italy has to offer and is considered by many to be one of Calabria’s finest hotels. Its beach (120 meters below the cliffs) is accessible only by a private special elevator. The hotel has a swimming pool, driving range, tennis court, minigolf, piano bar and billiard room.
The hotel is surrounded by an organic farm that provides the hotel with fresh organic food. Vegetables, fruits, olive oil, wine, milk, cheese, daily laid eggs, lamb, veal and pork meat, homemade jams and preserves are all produced on San Michele Hotel’s premises.
The acreage upon which the hotel is situated is also a bird sanctuary, where bird lovers from around Italy come to observe migratory patterns.
The maximum number of people that can be hosted in the hotel is about 80; however, there are other hotels in the area and the hotel can arrange pickups.
Air: The Lamezia Airport is 75 km from the hotel. The hotel can arrange for pick-ups.
Train: The Paola Railway station is about 21 km from the hotel.
Auto: Use the Motorway Roma – Caserta Sud – Salarno – Lagonegro Nord – Fondo Valle Noce. (293 km)

Engineering Conferences International (ECI) is a not-for-profit global engineering conferences program, originally established in 1962, that provides opportunities for the exploration of problems and issues of concern to engineers and scientists from many disciplines.
The format of the weeklong research conference provides morning and late afternoon or evening sessions in which major presentations are made. Available time is included during the afternoons for ad hoc meetings, informal discussions, and/or recreation. This format is designed to enhance rapport among participants and promote dialogue on the development of the meeting. We believe that the conferences have been instrumental in generating ideas and disseminating information to a greater extent than is possible through more conventional forums
All participants are expected both to attend the entire conference and to contribute actively to the discussions. The recording of lectures and presentations is forbidden. As ECI conferences take place in an informal atmosphere, casual clothing is the usual attire.
Smoking is prohibited at ECI conferences and conference functions.
The Engineering Conferences International conferences calendar and other information can be found on the ECI web site: www.engconfintl.org
